FAQs

Achillea millefolium can spread through underground rhizomes, but it is not considered highly invasive. In well-maintained garden borders, these flower plants stay manageable, especially if spent flowers are deadheaded to prevent self-seeding. That being said, if left to naturalise, it can gradually form larger clumps, making it an excellent choice for wildflower meadows and informal planting schemes.

For best establishment, plant young Achillea in spring or autumn, spacing them 30-40cm (12-16in) apart. Water Achillea well after planting, but once established, it is relatively drought-tolerant and requires little maintenance. Achillea ‘Cerise Queen’ thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, preferring poor to moderately fertile soil, as overly rich conditions can lead to weak, leggy growth. Deadhead spent flowers and cut back plants back in late autumn or early spring to allow for fresh growth to develop.

Achillea millefolium can be grown in large containers filled with free-draining compost. Choose a sunny spot and water sparingly once plants are established. While it thrives in pots, regular division may be needed to prevent overcrowding.
