Lavandula stoechas

Deadheading Lavandula stoechas is a straightforward job. Once the flowers have faded, use clean, sharp secateurs or pruning shears to snip off the spent flower heads just above the first set of leaves. Avoid cutting into the woody stems, as this can damage the plant and slow its growth.

Lavandula stoechas typically only grows to a compact size, with mature plants only reaching a height of 60cm (24in) and spread to about the same width. This manageable size makes it perfect for patio pots, rockeries, or borders. Regular pruning will keep it healthy and compact, but even left to its own devices, it won’t grow all that large. Our Lavendula stoechas plants are supplied in 9cm pots at a height of around 10 -12cm (4.5in).

Yes, Lavandula stoechas is an evergreen perennial plant. Perennials are plants that don’t complete their life cycle in one year, so even when their flowers die back after the season ends, your Lavender’s pretty silver-green foliage will remain. Cared for properly, it will then bloom again next year. While it is hardy in milder climates, French Lavender is more tender than English Lavender and may need some protection if you get particularly cold winters. Mulching the base or moving potted lavender to a sheltered spot during frosts can help it survive the colder months.
