Product Details

This variety is absolutely stunning with sumptuous deep purple, bell-shaped blooms.

No garden is too large or too small for a few penstemons. Equally at home in formal borders, a cottage garden style setting or in pots and containers, they are hugely floriferous and reliable. We’ve chosen some of the best ones which always perform well year after year.

Grow in fertile, moist, but well-drained soil in sun or part shade.

FAQs

Yes, Penstemon Raven is a hardy perennial plant, well-suited to UK gardens. It can withstand colder temperatures, making it perfect for planting in outdoor borders. However, in particularly harsh winters, it may benefit from some light protection, such as a layer of mulch around the base to keep the roots insulated and prevent damage from frost.

Penstemons like Penstemon Raven grow best in well-drained, fertile soil and prefer a sunny spot. It’s ideal for planting in formal borders or cottage gardens. While it tolerates some shade, the best flowering results come from a sunny position where plants can receive 6 hours of sunlight a day. It also benefits from good air circulation to help prevent fungal diseases.

Penstemon Raven is low-maintenance once established. It benefits from occasional feeding in the growing season with a balanced fertiliser, but avoid excessive fertilisation as this encourages foliage growth rather than blooms. Water regularly during dry spells, but ensure the soil is well-drained to prevent root rot. Protect the crown with a layer of mulch in winter and,  In early Spring, cut back any dead stems to the base ready for regrowth.
