If you aren’t planting your Johnsons bulbs when they’re first delivered, store your bulbs in a cool, dry place until it’s time to plant. While successful in a very wide range of soils, most bulbs are intolerant of poor drainage. So, if your soil is heavy, dig in plenty of sharp sand or horticultural grit.

For planting in containers, we recommend using general purpose, peat-free compost to feed your bulbs and encourage growth. Bulbs tend to grow into more pleasing displays when they’re planted in groups. This offers your containers a more natural looking arrangement with colour aplenty.

Always plant your bulbs and corms with the pointed growing tip facing upwards. If you’re unsure, face any hair-like roots downwards.
