Product Details

Don’t be misled by the delicate appearance of the deeply cut, cornflower-blue flowers with mauve centre, as these plants are very tough and resilient. The flowers appear from late spring and through the summer, attracting bees and butterflies to the garden. A delightful addition to the border, it also works well in a naturalised setting.

Easy to grow, just plant in a sunny position in well-drained soil.

FAQs

Centaurea montana self-seeds, which means that its flowers produce and spread seeds as they would in the wild, without the need for you to plant its plants or sow its seeds for it. As such, it can escape the garden–but it has not become invasive in the UK. Certain sources may label it as invasive because it is invasive in other countries, however.

To deadhead Centaurea montana, use scissors or pruning shears to remove spent flowers just above the nearest set of healthy leaves.

Cut back Centaurea montana once its flowers start to lose their lustre, trimming the stems to ground level to encourage fresh growth and a neater appearance.
