Dahlia Showpiece blooms have a delicate fragrance, an understated scent with traces of honey. They thrive in sunny beds and borders with well-drained soil, and can even be grown in containers, offering non-stop colour all summer and autumn. Keep plants well-watered to encourage growth. For cut flowers, harvest your dahlias on a cool morning and refresh the water regularly for long-lasting colour.

Dahlias are half-hardy perennials, so they can bloom every year if protected from winter weather. While they can survive cool temperatures, they are not fully frost-hardy, so may not come back next year if left outdoors. In colder months, it’s best to lift the tubers and store them indoors to replant the following year.
Leaving dahlias in pots over winter is possible, but they need protection from frost. Place the pots in a frost-free location, such as a garage or greenhouse. If you prefer, you can lift the tubers and store them in a dry, cool place until spring.
Dahlias can grow well both in pots and in the ground. In pots, they can be moved to find the best sunlight and protected from harsh conditions. However, they often grow larger and healthier in the ground, where they have more space for their roots to spread.
