Product Details

Soft apricot tones, ruffled petals, and a graceful, airy habit – Geum ‘Mai Tai’ is a perennial plant that brings effortless beauty to the garden. Modern breeding has produced some fantastic flower plants over recent years, and Geum ‘Mai Tai’ and others have featured prominently in many Chelsea Flower Show gardens. Its semi-double blooms emerge in late spring, shifting from peachy hues to warm blush as they mature, creating a changing display that lasts for months. Held on gently arching stems, the flowers float above a neat mound of deep green foliage, adding movement and elegance to borders.

Geum ‘Mai Tai’ is as easy to grow as it is beautiful. This stunning plant with orange flowers thrives in sun or partial shade, where its long flowering season and resilient nature make it a valuable addition to any planting scheme. Ideal for softening edges or pairing with Salvia plants for a bright, colourful effect.

Delicate and beautiful flowers

Healthy plant delivered and at the moment only a modest amount of flowers. When they do come they are beautiful and delicate looking. Perhaps will be more floriferous if we get more sunshine!

FAQs

Plant Geum ‘Mai Tai’ in moist but well-drained soil in a position with full sun or partial shade. Adding organic matter when planting improves soil structure and helps retain moisture. Space plants 30-40cm (12-16in) apart to allow air circulation and healthy growth. A light application of general-purpose fertiliser in spring supports strong flowering, as does regular watering. To maintain your Geum’s shape and extend the blooming season, remove faded flowers regularly. In autumn, trim back old foliage to keep the plant tidy and encourage fresh growth for the next season.

Geum ‘Mai Tai’ should be divided every three to four years for best flowering. The best time to split the plant is early spring or autumn, when conditions are mild. To divide, carefully lift the clump with a fork, shaking off excess soil to expose the roots. Use a sharp knife or spade to separate the clump into smaller sections, making sure each has several healthy shoots and a good root system. Replant immediately in well-prepared soil, watering thoroughly to help the divisions establish.

Geum ‘Mai Tai’ pairs beautifully with contrasting and complementary perennials. Its warm apricot blooms stand out against deep purples and blues, making it a perfect partner for Salvia, Nepeta, and Alliums. The soft, ruffled petals also blend well with pastel shades, creating a harmonious look when planted alongside soft pink Geraniums.
