Product Details

Graceful and enduring, Honorine Jobert is our favourite Japanese anemone. This superior hybrid variety grows masses of beautifully formed, single white flowers that open up to reveal contrasting golden stamens. Supplied as 9cm potted plants, its simplicity and elegance simply dazzles in the late summer and autumn border.

This white-flowering Japanese Anemone x hybrida is a magnet for bees and butterflies, blooming from August right through to October. Sitting atop tall, strong stems, its graceful blossoms look perfect alongside Dahlias or nestled towards the back of autumn borders. They make perfect cut flowers, too, adding a delicate touch to indoor arrangements. Plant in fertile, moist but well-drained soil in sun to part shade and this easy-to-grow perennial will reward you with effortless beauty throughout the seasons.

Order your white Japanese anemone plants with Johnsons today. Pair with brightly-coloured perennial flowers, such as vivid red or pink-flowering plants, for a contrasting colour palette that instantly draws the eye.

FAQs

If buying pre-grown flowering plants, the best time to plant Japanese anemones in the UK is in early autumn or spring, when the ground is warm and moist. In autumn, plant them 4-6 weeks before the first frost to give them enough time to establish. In spring, plant once the risk of frost has passed and the soil is workable. Though they are frost-hardy, it’s best to harden young plants off before planting out.

The Japanese anemone, including the Anemone x hybrida Honorine Jobert, can be cut back in late autumn after flowering has finished and the foliage begins to die back. Cut back all the foliage and spent flower stems to ground level using a sharp pair of secateurs or garden shears. This helps to tidy up the garden for the winter if you have flower bulbs such as snowdrops coming through. Alternatively, you can leave the flowerheads to go to seed for birds to eat in winter.

Japanese anemones can be propagated by division. In early spring or autumn, lift established plants and carefully divide the root clumps into smaller sections using a spade. Each section should have its own healthy roots. Replant the divisions immediately in well-prepared soil. They can also be propagated by seed, although this method takes longer to establish large flowering plants.
