FAQs

Although technically a short-lived perennial, Alyssum is generally grown as a hardy annual. This just means that it’s unlikely to survive the winter outdoors and usually won’t come back each year. Alyssum Carpet of Snow is easy to grow from seed. It will happily flower across the whole summer, dying back over winter, giving you a new opportunity to fill the gaps it leaves with spring bulbs to extend your garden or patio’s season of interest.

Alyssum Carpet of Snow will spread to form a soft mound of flowers, around 10cm tall and 25-30cm wide. Grown as an annual, it will rapidly fill gaps in borders without becoming a nuisance and smothering other plants. It looks really effective tumbling down walls or spilling over pots, giving a floriferous look for very little effort.

Alyssum Carpet of Snow is very easy to grow from seed - simply sow indoors or under cover from February to March in a seed tray or pots of peat-free compost. Alternatively, sow it directly into pots and borders after the last frost, around April to May.

Planted in full sun, Carpet of Snow should flower all summer long; however, if the plants start to look a little tired towards the middle or end of summer, simply deadhead to encourage a flush of new flowers.
