An F1 sunflower is a first‑generation hybrid variety, bred from two selected parent lines to give stronger, more uniform plants. These F1 sunflower seeds are easy to grow and ideal if you’re learning how to grow Helianthus annuus with reliable results. Sow them in spring when conditions are right for planting sunflower seeds, and you’ll enjoy tall, bold blooms perfect for borders and cutting gardens.
Sunflower Infrared F1 typically grows to around 180 cm (6 feet) tall, forming tall, upright stems with striking deep‑red blooms. This makes it well-suited for adding height and structure to borders, cutting gardens and wildlife‑friendly planting schemes.
Sunflowers should not be planted next to potatoes, green beans, lettuce and other leafy greens, cabbage family crops (like kale, cabbage and broccoli), or fennel, as these plants can suffer from shading, competition for water and nutrients that reduce growth and yield. When you are learning how to grow Helianthus annuus successfully, it is best to keep these separated or use buffer plants such as marigolds, zinnias, between sunflowers and more delicate vegetables and herbs.
